This sewing machine makes a regular appearance in my bird paintings. I like to include references to women's domesticity, especially when I can find objects that have birdlike shapes. I bought this machine in a "junk shop", but my father used to scavenge the machines and their tables. We had a coffee table with a singer sewing machine base and bedside tables that contained the beautifully-carved drawers from the tables.
